give us a hand clearing this planet
Got this through our letterbox at home the other day, addressed to a previous resident. From the front, I thought it might be something asking me to contribute to the Poppy Appeal, or a similar armed forces charity.
But no.
Further investigation shows it to be a communication from those nice Scientology people. Now, I don't know very much about Scientology, nor can I be arsed to look for an answer, but if anyone knows why they want people to give them a hand in "clearing this planet" (of what?), then I'd be grateful if you would let me know.

Steer clear Dan, that's my advice.

WW II related propaganda associations strike back again. Applause, Scientology. Good one. By the way I really like the so called "personality test" on their website that opens with the following sentence:
"Your personality has everything to do with your income, your future, your personal relationships, and your life."
Ah, the most important part of my personality is my income. Brilliant. Didn't know that.

Those Hurricanes are hardly standing unless they airbrushed out the runway. Looks like they did and then forgot to airbrush in moving propellers. Whoops: bail out, chaps.
Scientologists want to clear the planet of body thetans, which are aliens who inhabited the earth following a nuclear explosion 75 million years ago.
It's a nobler aim than wanting to be an award-winning direct marketing copywriter, I suppose.

An innocent notion at a glance, but their beliefs aside, clearing the planet means they're actively making it their goal to convert the entire world to Scientology. Unfortunately, they also have a very "if you're not with us, you're against us" mentality. They judge the value of human life on something they call a "tone scale", ranging from -40 to 40. People who oppose or are critical of Scientology rank on that scale at a level of 2 or lower. What did the founder, L. Ron Hubbard, say of people who rank 2 or lower? "…any person from 2.0 down on the tone scale should not have, in any thinking society, any civil rights of any kind, because by abusing those rights they bring into being arduous and strenuous laws which are oppressive to those who need no such restraints." Not only that, "There are only two answers for the handling of people from 2.0 down on the tone scale, neither of which has anything to do with reasoning with them or listening to their justification of their acts. The first is to raise them on the Tone Scale by unenturbulating some of their theta by any one of the three valid processes. The other is to dispose of them quietly and without sorrow. Adders are safe bedmates compared to people on the lower bands of the tone scale."
Strange? Yes. Harmless? No.
