At innocent, we have spent almost nine years perfecting the art of writing rubbish on the side of our bottles. Thankfully, this work has now been recognised in a breakthrough study by some smart people in Germany, who have analysed something called 'text reception data' and a few other things.

I should at this point issue a disclaimer - I was interviewed by one of the authors a while ago. But I didn't mention metadiscourse or comparable monolingual texts. I didn't feel it was the time or the place.

Hmmm, interesting article. Actually a few friends of mine in Munich reckon the Germans are obsessed by English language and the quickest way of making a product look "cool" is to throw in the odd word in English.
