As of today, I own a football club, or at least a small part of one. They're called Ebbsfleet United and they're in the Blue Square Premier, which used to be known as the Conference. I'm quite happy that Ebbsfleet are the team of choice - they're from Kent (which is where I went to school) and I think I once played on their ground in a Kent Cup semi-final. So me and Ebbsfleet go back a long way.
Now that I'm the gaffer, I've started to consider how I'll be doing things. I figure that if I can combine the thirst of Clough, the tactical knowledge of Senor Benables, and Big Ron's special way with words, I'll be OK.
Any other tips for running a club and picking a team would be most welcome.
Football is truly great when it is populated by people who are slightly insane. Give me Clough over Wenger any day of the week, or Cantona over Beckham.
My brother just sent me over this Ian Holloway quote, uttered after his team (Plymouth Argyle) reached the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

Holloway is undoubtedly the king of the football quote since Big Ron went into retirement. So I dug around and found a few more old favourites. I sincerely hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Sort of. A Yorkshire MEP is trying to get the 1973 UEFA Cup awarded to Leeds posthumously (is that the right word? Probably not.). Richard Corbett says that recent corruption in Italian football has prompted him to try to overturn the result. Good man.
For those not versed in the history of Leeds United, Leeds lost 1-0 against AC Milan in the 1973 UEFA Cup final, mainly due to an horrific refereeing display. The ref was promptly banned after the match, but the result stood.

We played in a charity football tournament on Friday. We were promising, yet ultimately a bit rubbish. We drew two and lost two, narrowly failing to get out of the group stage by about five points. But, personally speaking, I did achieve one thing. My legs got pretty sunburned. As did my face. But it's only legs that count on the innocent summer bingo card. Now I can post this at the flickr group.
